NATHALIE PRÉVOST
ABOUT NATHALIE
Nathalie Prévost has been a full time potter and teacher for over 20 years in Kitchener Ontario. Her functional pottery is high-fired stoneware and this produces the most durable and functional pottery. To keep her work fresh Nathalie looks to nature for inspiration in colours and design. This particular medium speaks to Nathalie for its interaction with the flame and fire that translates onto the vessels. Nathalie’s work has been featured in various publications, including The American Ceramic Society, Grand Magazine and Clay Times magazine. One of her smoke fired vessels is in Prince Andrews private collection.
Nathalie enjoys spending her days producing functional every day pottery that is sold throughout Canada.
ABOUT SMOKE FIRING
Smoke firing is done in a garbage can or in a pit. I use sawdust, wood, salts, oxides, plants, flowers and manure. The pots are burnished in 4 different stages to make a smooth surface for the fire and additives to smoke color to. they can fire for up to 10 hours. When finished the vessels are then polished with paste wax. There is no glaze on these vessels, the colour is from the fire and additives. The smoke fired work is not food or water safe
